Davion Holland

Visual StorytellerJournalism & Mass Communication Student at North Carolina A&T State University

Documenting culture, leadership, and global service through visual media.

My journey into visual storytelling began with a fascination for composition, lighting, and atmosphere. What started as creative exploration evolved into a disciplined approach to documenting real communities and real impact.

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism & Mass Communication at North Carolina A&T State University, where I am developing a strong foundation in media ethics, storytelling, and digital production.

With over 800 documented service hours through The Males Place, Inc., I have photographed community events, youth leadership initiatives, and international service missions. My work has been featured in public exhibitions and youth arts showcases throughout Charlotte.

I approach journalism as both documentation and responsibility ensuring that every image carries context, integrity, and purpose.

International Media & Cultural Storytelling

Through my work with The Males Place, Inc., I have participated in international cultural and service missions in Ghana, West Africa, and Belize.

During these experiences, I served as a visual documentarian capturing high-impact photography and short-form video for archival, educational, and marketing purposes.

These missions strengthened my ability to:

  • Communicate across cultures

  • Document respectfully in unfamiliar environments

  • Work under logistical and time constraints

  • Capture authentic moments in dynamic community settings

International fieldwork has shaped my perspective as a journalism student. It reinforced that media is not just storytelling it is preservation of history and lived experience.

Community & Leadership
Service-Driven Storytelling

"I remember an older woman stopping to admire one of my photos. As she smiled, completely absorbed by the image, she told me how deeply it touched her. Watching her eyes light up as she shared how much the photo meant to her—and then deciding to buy it for her home—was an incredible moment. That experience made me realize the profound impact photography can have on people. It was amazing to see someone appreciate my perspective so powerfully."

Leadership informs my creative process. I have completed over 800 documented volunteer hours supporting youth development, mentoring programs, and nonprofit initiatives.

My responsibilities included:

  • Event photography and documentation

  • Short-form video production for social platforms

  • Assisting lead photographers during major events

  • Supporting fundraising and community awareness campaigns

My photography has been displayed in exhibitions at University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where I experienced firsthand the emotional impact of visual storytelling.

I believe journalism begins in community — understanding people before documenting them.
